Tar Heel Trot was started in 2000 by the UNC-Chapel Hill chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma to raise money and awareness for Friends For an Earlier Breast Cancer Test.

The first 5K was held on April 1, 2000. This event garnered the support of over 480 participants and raised close to $5,500 for research grants. In its history, Tar Heel Trot has raised over $60,000 for Friends and breast cancer research.

Tar Heel Trot

While most breast cancer organizations focus on searching for a "cure" for breast cancer, Friends is the only breast cancer organization whose sole purpose is to find a new method for earlier pre-tumor detection of breast cancer.

Please explore this website to learn more about Tar Heel Trot, Friends, and how you can get involved in the fight against breast cancer. Help us take a step in the right direction through early detection. Your generous donations and participation in the Tar Heel Trot 5K can make a difference in the lives of women around the world.
