FRIENDS FOR AN EARLIER BREAST CANCER TEST:
Did you know over 1 million women have breast cancer and don't know it?
Each year the proceeds from the Tar Heel Trot are donated to Friends For an Earlier Breast Cancer Test by Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Since 1995, Friends has been on a mission to provide grants to scientists who are exploring bio-markers that indicate breast cancer's presence in the body. Friends offers support in the form of seed grants of $40,000 which scientists use in research projects.
Why the upside down ribbon? Pink ribbons have traditionally been used as the symbol for breast cancer awareness. Friends founder and UNC-Chapel Hill alumna, Martha Kaley, explains that "Friends' pink ribbon is turned upside down to encourage everyone to look at breast cancer research from a different perspective."
Your support allows Tar Heel Trot's donation to grow, increasing the funds available for breast cancer research to find an earlier method of detection for women.
